Thank you to everyone for your prayerful support as John and myself travelled to Lusaka, Zambia on the GO Mission Trip. The team was small and made up of five Canadians, us two from the UK supported by a Zambian team led by Sizwe Mwale and Rosemary from Kenya. The team became close and worked well, supporting one another and the fellowship was very special.
We worked with 8 churches, seven in Lusaka and one in Chongwe town, a rural area. The leaders and members were trained in readiness to go and evangelise in the areas close to their churches. We visited 3 schools where we had to be very flexible with presenting the Spark magazine. The assemblies comprised of 450-500 students or two classes joined together with 100 students! The Gospel is explained clearly in the magazines and the students were seen to be reading through them as we left. We also visited Lusaka University and were joined by the youth from one of the local churches. The students were very happy to stop and chat and prayers of commitment were made. One student, Nancy, gave her life to the Lord and at the end of praying commented, “That was a powerful prayer."
We had the opportunity to visit two hospitals and we were able to go from bed to bed on the children’s ward in one hospital, sharing the Gospel and praying with the parents and children. At the other children’s hospital one of the team led the staff devotions and then we again shared the Spark magazine with the parents and the patients as they waited for their appointments.
The last Sunday was spent with two churches in the compound area. There Judith met Zimba, pictured below, and his friend John. The way of salvation was explained using the Spark magazine and both young men said they wanted to pray a prayer of commitment. After praying Zimba looked up with a beaming smile on his face. He was so joyful and the church member who was with me recognised him as a member of her village and promised to support him. I wasn’t sure if John was quite so committed but will continue to pray for him to have the same assurance of salvation.
We do thank God for going before us and preparing the way and now we pray for the seed that was sown to be harvested and that the local churches will be encouraged and continue the work.
